Welsummer bantams originated in England by crossing Old English Game bantams and Rhode Island bantams with Welsummer bantams that are too small; later, German breeders were better able to create a true bantam form of the Welsummer with the help of German bantams, Rhode Island bantams and Wyandotte bantams, which, except in terms of size, resembles its large counterpart as much as possible.
- Rooster : 1000 g
- Hen : 900 g
They lay an average of 180 eggs per year, but this makes a difference per breeder. The Welsummer chicken lays dark brown eggs. The shell of the egg is semi-gloss and has dark speckles and splashes. This makes it a real speckled egg.
