The rather rare Asian breed (not very prolific) is native to the island of Sumatra (Indonesia). Sumatra chicken is also known as the “Sumatran Warrior” because of his aggressive behavior. It was bred for exposure thanks to its sleek shape and beautiful black hair with greenish metallic reflections.

As early as 1847, this Sumatran poultry breed came to America from the island of the same name. However, it reached Germany after 40 years. The Sumatran game fowl chicken breed was also kept in their homeland for struggle. The Sumatran breed has been described as taut and pheasant-like since 1847.
